I have been training in agility since
November of 2000. I have two dogs: “Brody” is a Shetland Sheepdog (DOB
3/99), and “Khesa” is a basenji mix (DOB 9/03?). They couldn't be more
different, and each has taught me so much about training. I think
agility is one of the most enjoyable dog sports for both the dog and the
handler. I especially enjoy teaching beginning agility classes. Whether
you end up competing in agility trials with your dog or not, I want you
to come out of my class with the tools you need to train your dog in a
fun and positive way.
I am currently pursuing a PhD in animal
behavior. As an academic, I enjoy reading and writing about the
principles of classical and operant conditioning. My true love is in
applying these principles though, and I've been fortunate enough to work
with a variety of other species - from goats to chimpanzees. I'm also
passionate about teaching others about positive training techniques --
whether that is through teaching my agility classes or when lecturing in
college courses.
